Second Soprano Rehearsal Notes
Evening ladies! I have been teased lately for my thorough notes – here they are.
To Sit and Dream
This piece needs to be like a driving train. It is dreamy, but we can't be.
m. 5 Keep F high
m. 7 Keep A high
m. 33 Marked “as a tender invitation” – this applies to us when we come in too
m. 37, 39, 41 Breath at end
m. 42 – 45 No breath
Moon Bridge
m. 8 Breath after “bay”
m. 12 Breath after “play”
m. 11 – 12 Look at this
m. 19 Ritard – watch
Night
m. 6 “skaw”
m. 7 – 8 No breath
m. 10 “baw” and Breath after it
m. 12 “baw”
m. 13 A flat
m. 16 Breath at end, Watch as Jane will take some time for the breath
m. 17 The D flat is tricky
m. 19 It's a diminuendo, not a ritard – I scratched out the word and put in a hairpin so my brain would recognize it correctly
m. 44 – 45 No Breath
page 6 Stagger breath
Birds of Passage
m. 3 Breathy
m. 7 Breath after “tall”
m. 12 “skaw”
m. 21 Watch
m. 33 “flaw”
m. 37 – 39 Each note should be a forte-piano so we are marking the beat
m. 40 Make “fleet” an eighth note, eighth rest
m. 40 At this point, become lyrical (no fp)
m. 45 Louder
m. 48 Mezzo forte
m. 51 Breath after ” high”
m. 59 – 64 The rhythm is the same for all parts so the words come out. Rhythm must be precise here to support that.
m. 63 Molto ritard. G needs to be high. Note the 3 staccato notes, then not. Follow Jane carefully.
m. 67 No breath
Flight / Sky Song
This piece is tricky. It is currently not intuitive. Jane said that with practice it will become intuitive – That's the joy of rehearsing. (And she said we are making tremendous progress).
m. 36 Carry last note through to m. 37, but cut off on the downbeat or there is an unwanted dissonance.
m. 49 The G needs to be open for a good sound. Also. at the end of the measure, at the page turn, there is a key change. Do not let it throw you or slow you down.
m. 60 Put an H in front of “what”. If you have trouble getting through the “hwh” quickly on the high note, just sing “wat”. Also, no vibrato (at least not a big one).
That is all. You are all way ahead of me. Next week I'm going to bury myself in the section for help 🙂 That said, it is great to be back. I missed you all and the music. See you next Tuesday.
Linde
