Second Soprano Rehearsal Notes

4/22/25
Soprano 2 Notes

So, many of my markings from today are reminders to watch, notice dynamics, watch, and watch 🙂
Birds of Passage
m. 3  Pianissimo, no swooping, sing clean. The “sh” of “shad” is under the pitch, if you need to to avoid this, leave off the “sh”.
m. 53  Don't emote
m. 55  the “ah” of “sky” should be on the beat (the “sk” before the beat)
62  Pronounce “delight” “dih – last”
m. 63  “wings” should be light
m. 66 – 73  Memorize this! So we can watch Jane so she can play.
m. 71  pp,  one sound
m. 73  “words” not “birds”
m. 75  Don't forget to get louder
m. 89 – 96  Stagger breath
m. 100/101  Breath on the tied eighth, put the “T” there
Sky Song
m. 13  New tempo
m. 16  Crescendo – bring out our A flat
m. 17  This accelerando takes us by surprise
m. 33  Ritard
m. 36 – 38  Go over these words, they are not clear and sometimes wrong – only 1 “lawn”
m. 64 & 65  Make sure “ment” is full quarter
m. 66  Jane says – you must watch!
m. 68  The “m” comes before the beat and the “ah” must be together
This Sky Falls
m. 20  “aw”
m. 31  This should be “so belly rich”, a very mature sound, forte
m. 91  Again, you might want to memorize this as the timing is strictly in Jane's hands
Night
m. 14  Make a good release of “stars”
m. 19  We still want to slow down
m. 25  Start the crescendo at the start of the measure, it's a long way from piano to mezzo forte
m. 27 – 32  Work on the words
m. 33  In the body
m. 37 – 42  Stagger breath
m. 41 – 47  Drive this, bring this out (duet with altos)
m. 48  “bright – est”  (I'm hearing bright-er)
m. 52  No “r”
The Moon Bridge
This should be a jaunty dance, your expression should be engaged – joyful, playful.
We have to watch this whole piece, Jane is constantly playing with the tempi and note placements.
m. 39  Cross of decrescendo of “frowned”,  Jane will go into 4 here
m. 40  Only one wave
m. 42  Rich sound, but soft
m. 43  Crescendo, which continues in 44
To Sit and Dream
m. 29  No R in “fettered”
See you in two days. Enjoy the nice weather til then.
