Second Soprano Rehearsal Notes

Soprano 2 Notes
4/24/2025
Ladies,
The concert draws near 🙂  Eyes up, out of our music. And a reminder, if your arms get as sore as mine, Jane suggested breaking the music into 2 folders and switching halfway through.
Also – think about what your face looks like. Don't show how hard you are thinking, try to show how much fun you are having singing this wonderful music.
In Some Dry, Dry Earth
m. 1  Piano. Blended sound (listen to each other), Don't drop the sound on “dry, dry”, lift each note.
m. 5-6  Bring our moving part out
m. 9  No breath, crescendo
m. 36  Accel.
m. 37  No breath
This Day I Am 18
🙂
Walden
m. 9 & 12  “u-ni-saw”
m. 43  Still keep it moving forward
m. 65 – 71  Don't turn pages or move – wait til the 6/8 where it gets loud again (or turn early if you remember)
m. 102  Long E on “elastic”
So, somewhere Jane said we also sing “neglect” and that should also be a long E on the first syllable – but I could not find it in what we sang today.
Grown Wild
Careful of “years” and “her” – no Rs.
m. 5  Sound should be a hooty oo
m. 11  High A
m. 18  Piano, rhythmic
m. 25, 47  Make this phrase an arc
m. 64  poco rit, which does not set the tempo for m. 65
Concord Hymn
Conducted in 2
New measure numbers – (I'm using new below)
Old   New
4   =  19
21  =  39
37  =  59
53  =  79
Note that the number of measures between verses is not the same as our music says.
This should be strong, bold, militant (not like a march though)
Change the last note of each verse to a whole note.
M. 19  Mezzo forte
m. 39  Mezzo forte plus
m. 43-44  The B's need to be higher
Pronounce “con-queror” “kohn – kroe” (your tongue says ee, your lips say oh)
m. 45  Breath after “sleeps”
m. 59  Forte minus
m. 79  Forte.  Jane will turn to audience to get them to sing with us.
m. 91  Last measure, ignore empty measures after this.

Have a good week – see you Tuesday.
Linde
