Second Soprano Rehearsal Notes

9/9/2025
Soprano 2 Notes
Good evening,
It is so nice to be back with you all. We have lost a couple second sopranos to other sections, but I was glad to see so many of our section there today.
A few notes and comments first – I am reiterating all announcements for those who missed:
About the celebration for Jane – plan to sing, bring friends ( Jane says the church is huge so we need to fill it :-).  There will be no rehearsal before the 26th, but the call will be early to figure out logistics and get a feel for the space.
Let Susan Avery know if you will miss a rehearsal. She will be leaving us at the end of this year, so if you want to take over her job let her know.
Michelle is co-concert manager – any problems, questions in that regard let her know (I missed the other co-manager, sorry).
Pay your dues asap – please within the next 2 weeks.
Sue Beck is looking for people to brainstorm with her for ideas on how to get more financial support for us. If you want to join her, let her know.
We will have 1 rehearsal at Trinity Congregational Church before our December concert there. We were lucky to get that venue.
What Child
Sing lines. The people doing the “bum”s are stacatto, but melodies should connect.
m. 30  Note the rest
m. 69  This is the first ending, 2nd time jump to pg. 15 for second ending. Maybe mark it so you notice it as we sing the same thing twice and it's easy to miss.
m. 80 – end “chah”
Stars I Shall Find
m. 23  Note this is where the repeat starts
m. 37  “aw”
m. 39  Note second time jump to coda – pg 11, m. 61
Siyahamba
This is an arrangement of a hymn I have sung in church.
We will sing this on October 26th.
Part 1 is first sopranos, Part 2 is second sopranos, Part 3 is altos.
O Come, Emmanuel
Pronounce “emmanuel” as “ih-mannuel”
This piece needs us to do the dynamics, sing lines, crescendo on the long lines to sustain the sound.
Open “aw” for “come”
m. 8  Breath after “come”
m. 20  Sing this section
m. 37  Go back to soprano line
m. 64  Sing this section
m. 69  Go back to soprano line
m. 96  Sing this section
m. 101  Go back to soprano line
Note:  I have “aw” written under “come” multiple times.
Lux Illuminare
Please go thru this piece and mark where your line is on each page – it changes and is hard to follow.
m. 1  Watch!!! Jane will give us each fermatta.
This is a very disciplined passage.
m. 2  PPP,  “looox”,  no break between the fermattas
m. 6  The next note on pg 7 will be the same note.
m. 13  The first sopranos will split, so we will take the second from the bottom line, starting on F sharp.
m. 32  Hold the A for 3 beats, then a quarter rest
m. 33-34  Our notes are F F D E E G sharp
m. 150  Watch
Gloria in Excelsis
I have no notes
Have a great week.
Linde
