Second Soprano Rehearsal Notes

9/23/2025
Soprano 2 Notes
Grown Wild
m. 5  Add an “h”,  More crescendo here
m. 11  Careful of the B flat (less flat 🙂
m. 12  more S2 here
m. 18  Bring out the rhythm when we have this phrase
m. 36  Crescendo
m. 38  Decrescendo
m. 39  Bring this out
m. 43  Higher A
pronunciation: No “R” in “her”, ever
m. 52  Cut off right on beat 3
m. 54  Don't let this line drop,  Lift the B natural
m. 56  Don't let this line drop either. S1 and Altos have a breath – we do not.
m. 74  Higher B flat, but do not accent it
m. 75 – 76  Note from me:  Use the “d” of “and” to help the leap from the C to the G by connecting the words “an – dAh”
Sounds like Jane expects us to have the breaths from when we sang this before. (I can give them if you don't have them anymore, just ask).
What Child
Start with your music turned to page 4 so we are ready.
This needs to be rhythmic, but connected – create lines.
Keep the pitch up.
m. 16  “this” is short
m. 51  Ritard
Challenges:
  Getting ahead of ourselves,
The vertical nature of the piece – it all has to line up
It start to “get Minnie Mousie” – stay in the body and supported
And always, but especially here, turn the pages sooner so we are prepared.
Stars I Shall Find
Conducted in 2
m. 25  Emphasize “vis” and back off on “ing”
Challenges:
  Shape the lines
  Feeling it in 2
The rest on the downbeat makes us late, prepare your breath sooner
Siyahamba
m. 47  Longer, in the body
m. 51  Same. Darker sound. Also, don't wind up – clean start.
m. 55  Big, bright, exciting.
Remember to crescendo into the rest of the phrase, like m. 55 to 56
This needs energy!
O Come, Emmanuel
m. 69  “K” of “come” should come just before the beat. Crescendo.
m. 71  Crescendo
Pronounce – “Ih man you ehl”
Gloria in Excelsis
m. 64  Supported. Forte.
m. 71  D to G, go low enough
Comments:
You need to know what's coming before you are ever there.
Note all the variations (and learn them).
Illuminare
If you haven't yet, be sure to mark/note where the other parts move, and we do not.
