Second Soprano Rehearsal Notes

11/21/2025
Soprano 2 Notes
General comment:  We must look up. If we don't then it's not musical.
Creator of the Stars
Start the first note of each phrase slightly under dynamic, then crescendo into the phrase. Especially with pickup notes. Shape each phrase with a crescendo, decrescendo. Keep doing it throughout the piece.
Watch Jane for cutoffs – if she is busy elsewhere, still cut off appropriately – this will happen a lot in these pieces as the parts often don't line up.
m. 19  No vibrato,  Keep A high
m. 21  “creh”
Around m. 30 Jane yelled at us to be “creamier” – that the sound was too shallow. In fact, she yelled “creamier” multiple places in the piece.
Also – we need to sing with more confidence. Know it, sing out (not above given dynamic, but no tentativeness).
m. 56  Cut off without Jane, she is busy with top line people.
m. 58  Forte, and crescendo.
m. 80  Bring out the B A. We are the only movement
m. 86  She's going to move forward here.
m. 99-101  Decrescendo
m. 112  Higher G
m. 115  Switch to “N” here (a gift as we are running out of breath)
Gloria in Excelsis
m. 15  ITB
m. 64 to end  All staccato except “De”.  But be careful – no diphthong
m. 90  Still hearing something different on “cel”. Make sure you are going to the G.
Illuminare
Got to say – this piece may kill me.
Remember! No “L” on “Lux” – start with “oo” or an “h”. Only like 4 people are designated to sing the “L” and it's not us.
m. 5 – 9  If the D is getting tight, drop out. It is hard to sing.
m. 13-14  Crescendo, decrescendo
m. 16  Careful with the “x” – needs to be very short and precisely with Jane.
In general – follow dynamics. More is better, Jane can always pull us back.
m. 30-32  Moving tempo here, watch.
m. 82 “leh” not “lay”
m. 89 – 99  Firm entrances. Jane will not bring us is so we have to be confident.
m. 165  No “L” (Just me, cause I'm the one who asked 🙃)
And m. 167  No “x”.
Lux in Tenebris
m. 25  Higher C sharp
m. 55 Crescendo
m. 59  Breath (yay)
m. 110  Bigger in the body, watch.  I have the tempo, the dynamic, and the words circled, all to be noticed here.
m. 129  ITB
m. 134  no “et”, just “te-ne-brae”
m. 137  This is in 4, and fortissimo
m. 142  Grandiosity sets in here. It continues, but bring it here.
Also, Higher B flat.
m. 161  Marcato and staccato.
So we got through the set on Thursday. Notes going forward:
Tuesday we will be on the altar for a short time (hopefully you won't need a stool). Arrive at 9:15 to get placed on the altar.
Thursday 12/4  we will be at TriCon. Arrive there at 9:15 also, same reason. Jane will have to give her attention to placement and the instrumentalists, so Please know your music before then. Stools will be brought there (if you don't have your own) and will be first come, first served.
