Second Soprano Rehearsal Notes

Soprano 2 Notes
2/24/26
Hope you are all doing well. It was great to have Jane back (even though we learned a lot from Simon).
Always Something Sings
I have consulted with Jane and here are the notes we sing where she made changes:
m. 11-15 = E E E E E    E C# F# F# F# A A   G F# E E    E A G# C#
m. 75-78 = E D E E E G# F# E
m. 86-88  same as 11-15 (basically)
In addition:
m. 38  Good “K” on “dark” cutoff on beat 3
m. 65  Breath after “things”
m. 71  Breath at end of measure
m. 74  Breath at end of measure
m. 85  Watch (firmata)
m. 93  “seee”
If you run out of air at the end, do not come back in.
Make a note where the solo is so you don't accidently sing there 🙂
Birds of Passage
m. 49  “craw”
m. 62  “dih – last”
m. 72  Higher
m. 95  Watch, Jane is taking a ritard
m. 96  “clawm”
m 101  Breath on the tied eighth note
m. 104  “nawt”
m. 106  “sawndə”  (shadow vowel “də”)
Hope is the Thing
m. 50  Breath after “all”
This will go fast.
I Started Out Singing
This needs a clinical rhythm,  no wallowing where it feels good.
m. 72  Higher B flat,  Quarter rest (taken from “rest”)
m. 73  Higher B flat
m. 84  “ing” should be “ee” And no vibrato (close harmony with S1)
Shadow River
m. 34  No breath (change)
m. 36  Change to “lone” being a quarter note followed by a quarter rest (take a good breath as there are no more breaths)
m. 51  “dree”  – and no vibrato
m. 52  No breath
m. 61  Lean into the A
m. 69  Get up to the F#
m. 70  Off on beat 3
m. 73  Breath after “ing”
m . 76  No breath
m. 80  Cut off on beat 3
The Treehouse – Landfall
Spend time with these texts. They are the poetry of Scottish poet Kathleen Jamie, a poet of great renown.
Also – Jane will be giving us measure numbers in this piece as she has a different score and different page numbers.
m. 26  Cut off “walk” with a good “k”
m. 42 – 52  No breaths  (stagger)
m. 77 – 80  Stay calm
m. 86  “Fail” – it looks like “fall” but it's not 🙂
Where the Light Begins
m. 38  Watch for the cutoff – Cutoffs in this piece will be as written
m. 45  Mezzo forte
m. 47  Higher, softer D
m. 49  “awl”
Jane stressed using the recordings and Jennifer's files. I have to add my vote for them – they help a lot, especially as some things look tricky and listening makes sense of them so much more easily than figuring it out from the music yourself.
