Soprano 2 Notes
Good morning!
Again there was concern expressed that we have yet to have a rehearsal with everyone there and Jane is now trying to work on the musicality of the pieces so she needs us there.
(But not if you are wicked sick, cause, well, you know).
Birds of Passage
Been a while since we looked at this and it showed.
m. 3 Whispery and soft
m. 4 All Gs need to be higher (I have multiple places Jane pointed this out)
m. 16 Lift (it's a G 🙂 And crescendo a little to carry through
m. 19 Breath after “elms”
m. 28-30 Crescendo, decrescendo
m. 30-31 Carry “night” through to m. 31, put T on first beat there
m. 35 Carry “flight” to this measure, place “T” there
m. 37 – 43 Don't forget the forte pianos
m. 44 (& pickup to) mezzo forte
m. 49 Quick “cr”
m. 51-52 Change – no breath
m. 56-58 Watch! Jane is taking a moment
m. 63 Watch. (It felt like we were not with her on the non-staccato notes). C and B should be light.
m. 66 Freely means watch Jane cause she is totally not in time. Also, no vibrato. Also, support! It was flat and needs to be soft.
m. 71 “aw”, F needs to be higher and half volume (unison with S1)
m. 75 – 83 Start soft, gradually crescendo. Notice where level gets to conversational then full voice. It is wicked hard to speak out of rhythm and still count. I have no advice right now but we need to think how to do that. Piano changes at m. 81 so maybe that will help.
m. 84 Put an “h” in front of “ah”
m. 94-95 No breath
m. 96 “aw” and F sharp needs to be higher
m. 97 Breath, support
end – note the piano drops out at m. 116 but we continue til Jane cuts us off
This Sky Falls
No vibrato, in the body, long vowels, creamy blend.
m. 6 “fah”
m. 31 True forte
m. 64 “flah”
m. 65 Breath, put “T” of “flight” on it. Watch Jane for it.
m. 67 Watch
m. 77 “skin” – stay on the “ih” vowel, don't close to “n” early
m. 94 Light
m. 95 “flah”
Moon Bridge
Work on this, per J request (demand?)
m. 1 In 2
m. 14 Carry “robes” to m. 15
m. 15 In 4
m. 16-20 Watch. Jane is taking time here.
m. 26 Breath after “mist”
m. 28 Start the crescendo right off, continue to forte in m. 32
m. 39 Don't forget to sing with altos
m. 52 Watch (rit, a tempo)
m. 60 “deeooee”, Quick “gr” on “grass”
Night
m. 4 Watch
m. 11 poco rit. = Watch
m. 16 Remember, breath after “gold” and Jane is taking time
m. 19 No ritard.
m. 23 Put an “h” before white, pronounce “hwhaw”
m. 26 Watch
m. 30 Jane is taking a tiny bit out of time, so watch
m. 34 Change – no breath
m. 36 Cut off with Jane
m. 38 “thee east”
m. 42-44 Bring this out, breath after “track”
m. 44 No breath into m. 45
m. 49 Breath after “themselves”
Grown Wild
m. 47-48 Crescendo into “me” (m. 49)
on pg 7 I have written “crisp rhythm”
Also – Jane got all excited when we were spot on with rhythm because the word “willingness” was clear to hear (and as she has said this is the climax of the piece…)
m. 74 Use the “w” of “one” to lift the note, not pull it down
m. 74 – 75 Sing through to “girl” where the emphasis should be
m. 85 Breath after “one'
m. 96 Breath after “wild” – watch (ritard)
I think that's all – Have a good week and see you next Tuesday.
Linde
