Soprano 2 Notes
Intense rehearsal today. We are getting close so please find your problem spots and work on them.
To Sit and Dream
In general, don't let the breaths slow you down. They have to be wicked quick.
m. 18 etc. The triplets need to be triplets
m. 30 Put an “H” before “All” to lift the A natural, which needs to be higher
m. 31 Remember the breath at the end.
m. 50 No vibrato, Also we got a compliment that this section had a nice relaxed feel, but with an underlying forward movement 🙂
m. 58 Noted here, but everywhere – “bout” is “baw”
The Moon Bridge
m. 18 Watch
m. 28 Don't slow down
m. 31 Look at and note the rhythm here
m. 41 In 4
m. 42 in 2
m. 53 Watch – Jane may or may not slow down here
Sky Song
m. 13 “H” before “when”, Don't anticipate the “L” of “still”
m. 14 – 16 Look at this, we are still having problems with the notes, especially the F
m. 17 Accel. – Watch
m. 20 The Accel lands here – so it's faster
m. 21 Then the next measure it's ritard. Just watch carefully for these few measures.
m. 24 Jane kept asking for more – note the crescendo
m. 25 The A natural needs to be higher
m. 29 The “th” needs to be voiced, pitched, and high enough
m. 31 – 33 The placement of the notes is tricky – look at this
m. 33 Watch, it's a ritard
m. 67 Don't hesitate after “is” – drive through to the next measure and “mine”.
m. 68 Make the “m” short
In Some Dry, Dry Earth
m. 7 – 10 Stagger breath, don't let yourself run out of air
m. 7 Also, no glottal with “I” – put an “H” in front if you need it to soften the attack
m. 45 Make a lot out of the hairpins so “smiles” really smiles
m. 48 No “m” before “buried”
This Day I am 18
m. 5 These first 3 notes (each time they occur) need to be connected but clean. Don't hesitate between C and C and no slide from C to G.
Walden
m. 2 The Soprano 1's G sharp is our A flat.
m. 4 Accel – watch Jane's count.
m. 14 Breath after “unison”
m. 43 More in the body
m. 46 Mark this somehow – “the” is only an eighth note.
The last 5 pages were a mess, but we were so tired by then, who knows. Jane said she'll start there next week.
Practice. Have a good week. The forsythias are in bloom, it's all good.
